Monica CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS ADVISOR WHERE SHE WORKS WITH STUDENTS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT OVER TWO DOZEN COMMUNITY PROGRAMS AIMED AT PROVIDING SUPPORT IN THE AREAS OF HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. SHE ALSO SERVES AS THE ADMINISTRATIVE REPRESENTATIVE TO THE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS OFFICE STUDENT ASSOCIATION.

Originally from Oakland, Calif., Monica completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender Studies with a minor in Spanish from UCLA after transferring from Chabot Community College.

Monica joined the CPO professional staff as the Writing Success Program’s Program Manager, housed in the Student Retention Center, where she oversaw the day-to-day operations of the program and supervised all student staff counselors. The Writing Success Program provides one-on-one writing counseling and quarterly workshops to address a full-range of student needs in relation to a variety of assignments including research papers, resumes, and personal statements.

During her time at UCLA, she was involved in various jobs and organizations, including: as an intern for the CPO Freshman and Transfer Internship Program; peer mentor for the UCLA Center for Community College Partnership’s East Los Angeles College Site; writing & creativity counselor for the WSP; member of the CPO Leadership Development Fellows Program, where she interned for Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE); and leader of workshops and social media components for the USAC Cultural Affairs Commission (CAC). She also served for two years as the co-chair of the CPO Women’s Collective. As a student staff member of WSP, Monica served as the UC Personal Statement High School Outreach Coordinator.
